Simon Fest Theatre Company
This year, the Simon Fest Theatre Company is putting on multiple productions that run from July through August and “A Christmas Carol on the Air” on December 19, 20, and 21. The shows are held at the Heritage Center in the charming downtown area of Cedar City. The plays for the 2019 summer season include “Little Shop of Horrors”, “I Hate Hamlet”, and “I Left My Dignity in My Other Purse.” You won’t want to miss out on these intriguing and hilarious performances!
Tuacahn Center for the Arts
The outdoor Tuacahn amphitheater first opened in 1995 and has been providing delightful and breathtaking performances since then. Some of the special effects that the Tuacahn amphitheater uses is a water curtain and 10,000 gallons of recycled water that can be pumped onstage for shows like “The Little Mermaid.” The Tuacahn Center for the Arts also brings in quality entertainers ( like Martina McBride, Kenny Loggins, REO Speedwagon, and more) and this venue is only a one hour drive from Cedar City. The musicals for the 2019 summer season include “Disney’s The Little Mermaid,” Disney’s When You Wish,” “The Sound of Music,” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”
Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts
Southern Utah University’s College of Performing and Visual Arts puts on a multitude and variety of performances every year. Within the College of Performing and Visual Arts, the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance puts on dance concerts and musicals and the Music Department produces alumni band concerts, choir concerts, jazz ensembles, and more!
The Utah Shakespeare Festival
The Utah Shakespeare Festival was founded in 1961 as a response to the thousands of summer tourists who wanted to enjoy evening activities in Cedar City after exploring the surrounding National Parks. Since its founding, the Utah Shakespeare Festival has built three theatres and The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, received a Tony Award for outstanding regional theatre, and has a wonderful relationship with Southern Utah University. The featured plays at the Utah Shakespeare Festival for the 2019 season include: “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “Macbeth”, “Hamlet”, “The Book of Will”, “The Conclusion of Henry VI: Parts Two and Three”, “Twelfth Night”, “Every Brilliant Thing”, “The Price”, and “The Greenshow.”
